Rodrigo Valdez was a Colombian professional boxer born on June 3, 1946, in Cartagena, Colombia. He started his professional career in 1963 and became the WBC Middleweight Champion in 1974, beating Nino Benvenuti from Italy. He defended his title twice before losing it to Vito Antuofermo in 1979. Valdez had a long and successful career, compiling a record of 63 wins, 7 losses, and 2 draws. He was known for his exceptional defensive skills and devastating left hook. After retiring from boxing in 1980, he worked as a trainer and later became a boxing promoter. He died on April 14, 2018, at the age of 71.
